The Value Perspective talks to Tom Slater

Thursday Sep 23, 2021
Slight change from our usual programming this week. We’re going to hear from our friends at the value perspective, part of the Schroders podcast network.
In their podcast they talk to people from all walks of life to understand how they make decisions in uncertain circumstances. It’s not just people in finance, they’ve talked to gamblers, army officers, explorers and rugby referees. I recommend you check it out.
This week, however, they do talk someone from the world of finance. Tom Slater is Head of US Equities and a decision maker for the Long Term Global Growth Strategy at Baillie Gifford.
But here’s the kicker, while the value team focuses on value investing Tom takes a very different approach to decision making. His team focuses on high growth companies both in listed equity markets and in private companies.
Nick Kirrage and Vera German are your hosts for this episode which explores the fundamental differences between the growth and value styles, but also some surprising overlaps between the two teams’ approaches.
We’ll be back with normal programming next week with an episode on cyber espionage and security. Enjoy
